COFFEE SHOP ATMOSPHERICS

Atmospherics the creation of an attractive space where a business can use to create a specific atmosphere for its customers. The right atmosphere will not only entice and engage customers, but also encourage them to spend money at a specific establishment. Within any great coffee shop, there is also great atmosphere. A place where writers can write, look out a large window or people watch for hours. Noise is kept at a minumum for the overall enjoyment of all customers in the establishment.

The Woman who sued Mcdonalds over spilled Coffee in 1994

In 1994 79 year old Stella Liebeck of Albuquerque, New Mexico, spilled very hot McDonalds coffee in her lap while sitting in her grandson's car. Liebeck claimed that she received third-degree burns over 6 percent of her body, including her inner thighs, buttocks, and genitals. After the injury, Liebeck was in the hospital for 6 weeks and received several skin grafts. In 1994, McDonalds served coffee at a temperature between 180-190 degrees Fahrenheit, where normal home brewing machines were between 130-140 degrees.

At first Liebeck tried to settle with McDonalds for $20,000 but they refused. After the subsequent lawsuit, McDonalds was forced to pay Liebeck $160,000 and 2.7 million of punitive damages. After this case, McDonalds reduced their coffee brewing temperature to 158 degrees Fahrenheit.

For me, McDonalds coffee is still too hot and I normally put some ice in the cup, to reduce the temperature, in case some coffee spills.
